These three domains are the focus of our comprehensive school counseling program, which addresses the needs of ALL students. Our school counseling department addresses these issues at various levels depending on the students' needs.
School Counselors can help you in the following ways:
- Preventative services and developmental lessons in the three domains are provided to all students through guidance curriculum. Topics such as test taking tips, TOPS information, career development, suicide prevention and awareness, dating violence, bullying, cyber bullying, and the responsible use of technology are covered in the general guidance curriculum. Students in need of more in depth attention can benefit from group or individual counseling sessions.
- Individual student planning is used to help students plan for their futures on an individual level. These individual sessions take place at least once per semester. In these sessions we look at setting personal goals, course plans, graduation paths, and post-secondary planning.
- Responsive services are designed to meet immediate needs of students. These services may include individual or small group counseling, consultation, referrals to outside agencies, mediation, or providing information. If a situation arises that you do not know how to handle, come to us and we can help you. It is impossible to list all of the issues that may come up, but here are some examples:
- grief
- bullying or cyber bullying
- sadness/depression
- anxiety
- abuse
- substance abuse or addiction
- asking for help for a friend or loved one
- coping with rumors
- anger
